Radeon X300, 2.6.20-15-generic. I installed the latest ATI 8.36.5 with

This bug is pretty minor, but definitely an annoyance. I'm running a
fresh install of 7.04 on a Lenovo N100 Laptop (Intel graphics) with
desktop effects on. I can confirm that mine does exactly the same thing
when gnome is starting and connecting to the wireless network...

I totally understand your point... Have you heard a mac start, have you heard a
windows start, at the right moments it would be nice to hear an ubuntu system
start.

I disagree that it is related to bug #43589. Once the VCD is on my hard
drive they play fine in all players.
My problem is specifically that I can not copy them from the CD. I have
yet to test this in feisty so I will have to get back to you on if this
problem still exists in the latest version.
I ma having similar problems with ASUS A6M. The volume control shows up
OSD and also changes it ... however, other applications dont seem to
honor it. For ex: if totem is playing, no changes in volume control
affect its output.

I just upgraded from edgy to feisty and with the kernel at 2.6.20 I
still get this problem, even with a cd in the cdrom drive.
The drive that hangs up is my second hard disk drive which is an ata drive with
a sil based sata to ide converter SYBA SD-SATA-IDE,
which has been working fine in edgy.
Please disregard my comment, just learned how inird.img is generated
during installation and is not part of any ubuntu package. Also closed
my bug.

That's because the files you see when you mount a VCD are not really the
files that the players play. They read data from the CD in a raw format.
You have to use a tool to extract the mpg's from a VCD image. This is
not a lacking of feature in the kernel, it's a detail of the VCD format.

I have (actually) had the same issue on Feisty x86. The install Mp3
support prompt would crash. As suggested I installed "libxine-
extracodecs" from synaptic package manager and upon restarting Amarok
the files started playing fine. Hope that helps for those.

The problem went away for me after enabling the modem in the BIOS of my
ThinkPad X60s.

I'd like to confirm this bug. I've tried many times to configure a VPN
through this "wizard" supplied by network-manager-gnome, but it always
disappears when you return to the "VPN Connections" window.

Unfortunately there is no visible change in the behavior of the vpn
configuration wizard with the new package.
It looks like my problem is the same as bug 89120. I've added a comment
there as well. Thanks for investigating.

I am afraid I am having the same problem with a Sony Spressa USB CD-R/CD-RW
drive. I get the exact same output as above.
I remember being able to record with this drive on ubuntu for as long as I can
remember (breezy maybe? or maybe even hoary...)
