But the fix they suggest does not work. Even if I unload kvm or try -no-
kvm the crash appears for me as well. I have a intel core 2 cpu.

boot hangs
Public bug reported:
During boot of ubuntu i get:
ATA2.01= failed to set xfermode (err_mask=0x4)
repeats 3 more times during boot followed by :
ACPI: PBLK Length [5]
Using 7.04, drive in question had problems using live cd as well. Is a Lite-on
DVDRW (single layer DVDRW).

The new version needed to be merged from debian so I had a stab at it
myself.
I'm attaching a debdiff of my merge for consideration by ubuntu-
universe-sponsors. The debdiff is between 3.02-1 (debian) and my merged
3.02-1ubuntu1 version. I hope it's sufficient.

I have literally spent probably 20 hours trying to figure this problem
out. Chatting on the IRC, chatting on the qunu, reinstalling packages,
etc. I never thought to disable knetwork manager.
I'm running ubuntu 7.04, and certain parts of networking for KDE apps
fail when knetworkmanager is
The problem appears in Gnome for me.
