This bug continued even after the wine repo's upgraded to version
0.9.38. This is now a known bug that is actively being worked on by the
wine devs. I have since turned off the wine repos, uninstalled wine and
then installed the version (0.9.33) from the Feisty repos. This has
fixed the problem.

I have upgraded to 7.04... and the result is a blank screen the color of
the default GDM background. Booting in recovery mode, then Xorg
-configure leaves me with a config file that does not seem to work by
default, either.
Maybe I need to try other AccelMethod options.

An update: Kernel upgrade didn't prevent crashing, it still happens. I
also tried the 9639 driver (aka nvidia-glx package) and unfortunately
the tv-out doesn't work with that either (seems to have stopped working
after the legacy driver).

I can confirm this is a problem.
I have just installed Feisty on a new hard drive.
If I plug an external USB drive in the icon pops up and I can transfer files.
If I then right click the icon and eject I get a message in the bottom left of
the screen
saying "there is data that needs to be written
Just wanted to second this. I (jawbreaker) posted on that thread, and
still haven't found a resolution. I did a fresh install tonight , but
the problem still remains. No other OS or distro I have running has this
problem, so I'm pretty sure it's Ubuntu Feisty.

I don't agree with changing this. I recognise that there is an extra
download cost involved (which I would point out is only something like
30% of the cost of downloading the indices for binary packages), but I
think this is offset by our ability to simplify documentation of certain

I'm not sure I agree with Brian's diagnosis here; if you're booting the
i386 image then it will never look for 64-bit kernels.
Could you please attach /proc/cpuinfo and /var/log/installer/syslog from
the installed system? (I gather you managed to install it eventually.)
