I think it might be worth adding something I have noticed: the bug is
more of a problem for shares where there are a large number of
files/directories present.
I am generally able to boot successfully if I only attach to "small"
shares (those with few files/folders in the root) but experience the
lsusb -vv AND lspci -vv: See attachment

My dvd burner is not being recognized/mounted on Feisty.
The laptop is a new Asus S96S and the drive is a tsstcorp ts-l632d.
I have tried upgrading the firmware to no avail.
The drive is recognized correctly in Dapper, but not in Gutsy. I have
not tried Edgy.

My previous comment was not completely right: I mentioned the wrong path
(/etc/grub/menu.lst instead of /boot/grub/menu.lst) and also the changes
were removed when a new kernel was installed (more precisely, when
update-grub is run). So here a new howto:

Using Feisty, I've put the default kernel (-generic) in my tftp-directory,
along with an initramfs that I rebuilt by setting BOOT=nfs in
/etc/initramfs-tools/initramfs.conf. This works great, and as far as I am
concerned, this bug can be closed.

I have solved this problem myself. The issue was that Evolution was not
sending an FQDN as the argument to the HELO directive during the SMTP
conversation. When I edited /etc/hostname and /etc/hosts then I was able
to send email just fine.
