I confirm it's also happening to me, but I suspect it might not be, or not entirely, gnome-power-manager's mistake. I updated hal to 0.5.9 on a Feisty laptop and noticed the same bug: closing the lid would not suspend unless you re-open and re-close lid. Downgrading to hal 0.5.8 did the trick. May
