I've seen that the epkowa driver has been included in the
sane-backends-extras... That's good. The point is that some scanner (maybe all
?) need a firmware from epson. In my case, and I don't know if the same
firmware is needed by all, it is the one included in
iscan-plugi
The same happens when I just type "xrandr" in a shell, or start the new
"Screens and Graphics" preferences.

building alsa and prior to modprobing snd-hda-intel again?

Confirming: recompiling ALSA works.
On my Toshiba p205 I no longer had the correct card model selected despite I

-Seahorse won't show my GPG Key's again
