I succesfully got sound working compiling the 1.0.15rc3 ALSA driver but that
broke my Linuxant driver (v. 7.68 hsf) for my Conexant HDA modem reinstalling
both didn't work, uninstall

I would just like to add my twopenneth to this by restating that I am
successfully using the automatically-installed (big popup balloon
pushing me towards restricted drivers straight after the main
installation) along with the automatically installed Compiz Fusion.

Seems like I was reporting too early: Another CD fails again, encoding
with lame 3.97 just stops in the middle of the process.
The only thing that helps is aborting lame and re-trying. Of course,
this is nothing but a temporary solution.
By the way, I'm using lame's `--preset standard' option.

running vertically. I only have one panel -- along the top -- and it
runs horizontally.

It is a dpi problem. Apparently it has something to do with compiz
starting before gdm ( or the other way around). drvista on the ubuntu
forums managed to find a fix though. It worked for me at least.
In /etc/gdm/gdm.conf change:

With 2.6.20-16-server everything works ok.
With 2.6.22-14-server and ndiswrapper 1.43-1ubuntu2 kernel oops (see below).
With 2.6.22-14-server and ndiswrapper 1.49rc1 and 1.49rc3 the wifi dongle can't
connect to the AP, so i don't know if once connect it will oops again.

I can confirm both that this bug persists in lame 3.96.1-2ubuntu1 under
Feisty (as a matter of fact, on my system lame grinds to a virtual halt)
and is fixed in 3.97-0.0 which I grabbed and backported from Gutsy.
Consequently, the bug should disappear with the upcoming final release
of Gutsy.
