I have the same problem on Dell Inspiron 6400. As with others, it worked fine
in Feisty.
I get exactly the same results as Oliver when running those command. Also
changing the brightness from the Power Manager (via the slider) works just fine.

I have noticed one annoying thing with the new kernel. Now that
Ubuntu is handling the display settings it overrides me and doesn't
let me turn the brightness up all the way when I'm unplugged. This is
likely a problem with the brightness program, but before the kernel
didn't have access to it so

I had noticed this although found that it only does it to the last file.
So if you download the next file, you normally get the block your
missing and it fixes itself by the time you get you've downloaded all

That's odd I'm having the same problem myself, even with all extensions &
themes disabled.
Only I can't reproduce the problem in safe-mode.
Again;
- must switch to another folder before bookmark will save
- bookmark is saved with a blank name, and is not deletable in 'Organize
Bookmarks' view
