I've spent a while testing this, and I just can't get totem-gstreamer to
play DVDs in a user-friendly way. As such, I'd recommend that we stick
with using the gxine method for now - at least users will be able to
watch DVDs and get menus/subtitles in a reasonably painless way.

My computer goes into a soft hang every few seconds. A key press or
mouse movement wakes the system up but causes high cpu load 50%. No
errors are displayed in dmesg or other logs. The last kernel which
worked well for me was feisty 2.6.20-16. This seems to be due to cpu
.. and here is the output of,

Since 6.06, I'd had no success with USB, instead went the Firewire
route. I ran 'sudo chmod a+rw /dev/sg3' for each session. I was
delighted to find this workaround was no longer required when I
installed 7.10 a few weeks ago (oh joy!). My motherboard died two weeks
later and the only replacement

Correction - the driver worked for him when he fresh installed, but on
