today I upgraded to xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.2.1-1ubuntu4 and I can confirm
scrolling seems to be much faster. When looking at 'top' it is 30-40% for
Firefox and around 30% Xorg. So it helped me.
Will also try that dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg command.

I stay on Ubuntu 7.10 now wiht OpenOffice 2.3 and the problem there
isn't. The Ubuntu Hardy is installed on another PC and the problem
there isn't also on this. I think that was a problem of KDE 3.5.8 so
i've installed ubuntu-desktop and the problem solve.

Yes, slow keys most probably was my bug. I turned it on manually and
the behavior matches with what I experienced.
I had activation gestures turned on but had disabled all sounds, so I
didn't have any feedback when slow keys kicked in.

I just tried and I can still reproduce the crash. What I do:
1. Not have proprietary codecs installed.
2. Plug in removable device (MP3 Player).
3. (Rhythmbox opens and asks if you want to search for suitable codecs.)
4. Confirm. (Codecs are beings searched.)
5. Unmount removable device.
6. Close

I'd be willing to bet that if you check your xorg.conf files the refresh
rate on the modelines is too high. For example my settings used to be:

I think that this bug is quite severe. Ubuntu wants to be a distribution
suitable for beginners. But beginners will have absolutely no idea what

Still unsure about build dependency. According to info from packager of
openjdk-6 it should be available by March 16 so currently it is not
possible to use openjdk-6 in build dependency. So package has still
build dependency on icedtea-java7.

I was not able to reproduce it :(.
I have tried to upgrade another computer, saving the initial status, but
it worked, so I think we should close this bug as invalid... I hope no
