I'm running the server edition with newest linux-generic, xserver-xorg, OpenBox

I can confirm this problem in Hardy. It is an easily visible regression
on my laptop somewhere between kernels 2.6.24-7-generic and
2.6.24-11-generic. Fortunately I kept the old -7 kernel so I can compare

Since this isn't going to be fixed in Gutsy, then this bug should be
marked as Invalid. The new Hardy server images aren't stable under ESX,
probably because they are XEN-aware? Anyway, the problem with regular
vanilla hardy server ISOs appears to be much more severe than just slow
kernel
Well again I mess around for a couple hours and it stops happening.
In the process I did end up with my window decorations missing, so I had
to use gconf-editor to change my window manager to metacity, before it
was set to compiz, which I disabled ages ago.
Anyhow I hope it does not come back
