Actually, that won't replicate the problem you're trying to replicate.
In order to do that, you need to induce an error which causes e2fsck to
exit with a preenhalt statement when you run it with the -p option.
So for example:

are provided in 16x16,22x22(24x24),32x32 and 48x48(scalable) sizes and
as far as I know of the index.theme is correct, does switching to

I seem to have a similar problem (linux-image-2.6.24-12-generic)· But
for me the timeout is much bigger, more than one minute. This happens
just at the beginning of the boot-process. Will have to boot without
boot-splash to give more information.
