When i enter vim from mrxvt, the first command acts like it was prefixed
with 'c'. That is, if I type a movement command (e.g. j, G) it causes
part of the buffer to be deleted and I am entered into insert mode. This
is the same problem as http://bugs.
Er, or perhaps what you've already suggested. Guess my reading ability
dropped after seeing the "I don't want to apply this", and matched the
"change this so it can be conditionally turned on". :)

Well, right: because, as the bug indicates, gnome-terminal advertises
itself as xterm rather than xterm-color.
So, for some terminals (xterm itself, perhaps?), color will be on by
default, while in others it will be off. Better to make it consistently

I was a bit too hasty with pressing the "save changes" button.
Here is what i did when i got the crash:
- Open gnome-appearance-properties
- On theme tab, choose a theme.
- Click "Customize..." button
- Select a different set of controls on the "Controls" tab (thumbs are not

Ok here goes. Apparently for each keystroke entered on the text-based
location bar after an FTP connection has been made, gvfsd-ftp spawns a
new thread. This seems to be a Nautilus bug having to do with how
Nautilus handles changes on the text-based location bar. Here is the
