I can confirm this, happens usually (not always) if you close liferea
when it's updating the feed list and the 'feed update notification

[RESOLVED] : I came across a web posting that suggested the GSTREAMER
package that comes with Ubuntu was not so good and that having the XINE
BACKEND was better. I selected this from the repository and the issue
above went away immediately. I can move back & forth without problems.
