OK, I have a working PPA package up. Left for me to do (hopefully
today) - work on the AbiWord Extras packaging (it should be in the main
binary package, I just need to compile it against an un-installed
package. Should be pretty easy - I have the Fedora spec file that does
the same thing.),

Quick update:
Upon further investigation it turns out that both applications are
neither installed, nor available through synaptic. So for some reason
the menu entries are listed in the Gnome menu editor, but the
applications themselves are not present.
I don't know which of the two things is
output is attached. I did this by double clicking the network share,
then while nautilus was waiting for it to open (it taking a long time
before timing out is a symptom of the bug) ran gdb --pid 10531 where
10531 is the pid of the gvfsd-smb process that had just been started.

When changing the sliders (as an admin) and saving, this should IIRC get
saved in the xorg.conf. So the sliders do have a point, even though they

I even logged in as root and changed the permissions for the file to my
username and my name as the group.
When logging out as root and back in as me, the error still happens even though
I have user and group ownership.

ones as quickly as possible, before starting on new pieces to download,
