We have switched a system over from the nv to the proprietary nvidia
driver. Problems seems to have been solved. Another issue with the
desktop is that the screensavers were not working. In the preview they
were black and the open source nv driver. Now everything is working and
visible again.

Actually, the problem is probably stemming from your network having a
domain suffix of ".local" - Avahi (and Bonjour) use .local internally,
and that's probably what's causing it to fail to resolve properly.
There's no simple solution, but I'm almost positive that this is the

I have checked many other sites to reproduce this "bug" and I can now
say that is should be considered a "show stopper". It appears that it's
related to the javascript performance (or AJAX or something similar) and
is TERRIBLE.

If all the Ubuntu desktop distros, Kubuntu, Xubuntu etc all used
PulseAudio, this wouldn't be a problem to solve. However, since only
Ubuntu, Gobuntu, and UbuntuStudio use pulseaudio for the desktop, things
are a lot more difficult.
As Steve has stated, this needs to be done in alsa-lib/libasound2
