I had upgraded to Kubuntu 8.04 from 7.10 on my laptop LG LW40 and
started experiencing very strange system freezes. First times I was
unable to understand what is causing such freezes and each time I was
doing different things on my laptop.
But later I found the way how to reproduce freeze 100%.
@Motin They might not be exact duplicates, but they certainly seem related.
I have not tried using the latest Mesa drivers. Will they be updated in the
repository if it fixes this bug? Or will it not be updated until the Intrepid
release?

I am having a similar problem, I get the starting administrative application
then it goes away.
Synaptic wont start up graphically but will as a sudo from the terminal
update manager will run but freezes when it checks for updates

Reproducable here as well on an up-to-date Hardy, I could only restart
my machine by pressing CTRL+ALT+SysRq + REISUB. If I had had some
unsaved documents I would have lost it.
