Started happening to me when I upgraded to Hardy Heron.
Abandon nautilus for PCmanFM until it's fixed.
My NTFS partitions and external harddrives stopped automounting. To fix
that I put in my .bashrc (all one line):

Just wanted to confirm that this bug is still present in Hardy. I have
a Thinkpad X22 with a Radeon Mobility M6 LY (Radeon 7000 based) with 8
MB of RAM.
Following the steps from the above posts:
A. As with the above poster, programs using Xv overlays work fine with
24bpp, but the video RAM is in
OK. But remember that the main bug is in the description:

I have finally found a work around:
System >> Preferences >> Sessions >> Uncheck Power Management >> Reboot
Now Shutdown works normally. Of course now Suspend and Hibernate do not
work but in the big scheme of things on this desktop system I never use

I have the same problem. For me, 7.10 was fine - now 8.04 reboots almost
every time when I hit shutdown.
Occassionally, it does shutdown but too rarely for me to reproduce
easily. Seems to depend on whether I turn my modem off or not - but that
could be unrelated.

After completing the installation, the update-manager said it was going

I got stuff similar to TJ, I'm running on Intrepid now though

I tried the whole night to get a bootable iso. No no..
For me it's still a bug.
Anyway I didn't succeed, I am frustrated and this is not a workaround.
mounting an iso, unpacking a cpio file packing it again and trying to
figure out how to make a bootable iso with a buggy mkisofs.. WTH!! As
usual co
I fixed it by sudo rm rhythmbox.* -rf in /var/lib/dpkg/info
which may not be a recommended fix.
