Straces attached. When dumping to a file it was slowed down enough to
apparently fix the problem! Setting the console scrollback buffer to
5000 lines allowed me to get a full capture of it failing, so I have
attached both files - the one worked copy includes several VT
switches, the failed one
I just tried it with a new user and it works fine. The issue is only on
my own user which has been there before the update. Is there a setting
which I can change? I am using a separate ext3 partition for /home.

Nothing very technical : it was the wi-fi alarm system in the house :
now if I go off site from the sensors I get connected immediately and

Sorry for not catching this in my upload, though I'm pretty sure I

I've tried to reproduce the bug in a Debian chroot, upgrading from
0.97-1 to the latest version available in sid, and it fails the same
way. There are two bugs in Debian related to this, both closed by the

I use an a Layla 20 bit sound card 8 in 8 out, also an on board intel
motherboard soundcard. There are no conflicts. When I do a line feed
from a mixing desk, it records, but plays back in high quality thin
sound, almost like the microphone sound you would get when natural
