It appears that when querying the environment of a disk/partition device
node in Intrepid, the DEVTYPE variable doesn't appear to be set, unlike
hardy, where the DEVTYPE variable is set depending on whether the device
node represents a partition, or

though this machine has been running stably for years, and even stable
since upgraded to Hardy when it came out. Now all of a sudden X is

It shows the reason the system rejected the 1024x768 screen mode - "(II)

This is the same reason shown in the log for my system
Here's the upstream git commit id for the patch Thomas is referring to.
As Thomas pointed out this is already upstream and will likely be pulled
into the upcoming Intrepid kernel when the next rebase occurs or the

Confirming. I'm having this problem as well. I haven't had any crashes
with it, but fast switching can and does cause repeating login prompt
noises as you described. If I recall correctly, restarting the X server
fixes the problem. (Ctrl-alt-backspace or sudo /etc/init.d/gdm restart)

I have opened a "Configure Shorcuts" dialog and has found that
"disabled" keys are mapped to the following:
Left Arrow - > Alt
Down Arrow -> Meta
Up Arrow -> PrintScreen
RightArrow - nothing

Installing 2.4.1 didn't change anything. 3-4 reboots and keytouchd died
in the same way. I am using a custom keyboard configuration file that I
created with keytouch-editor 3 beta.
I can confirm that starting a new daemon (as kiri/acron suggests)
returns the extra key functions back.

Similar (or the same?) problem is also present on my Ubuntu Studio 8.04
machine. The set of symptoms:
- default keyboard layout is Polish and no other layout is selected in keyboard
panel
- after system restart (and autologin), US keyboard layout is in effect, while
the keyboard indicator shows
Is this still a problem in Intrepid (or KDE4?)

Here is a much smaller change. I've moved the calls to onexit after the
declaration.
The script is still very buggy but this is not a big deal because the
error occurs only when the script fails to create the tmp dir. Solving
all of this is too much work for a SRU and regarding the low importance
I'm still having this same issue.
