Yes, you can easily change the UUID's with the device name in your
/etc/fstab file. It should work fine.
The advantage of UUID dome into play when you have multiple disks.
Sometimes then name of the device might change and the file system will
fail to mount.

Xorg should automatically create a new log file everytime it starts. The
old one is automaticallyed stored in /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old. So to
create a new log file, you will have to restart X. Either ctrl+alt+bksp
or logging out will work.

I have an HP Pavilion dv9830us laptop. The volume controls for said
