I just noticed this revert unexpectedly from gconf to flat file since
alpha 3.
I believe someone explained to me that if there was a problem with gconf
at any point, it would revert to flat file and stay there.

I'm just adding the two upstream git commit id's for the kernel team to
reference that seem to have resolved the debian bug -

appears these patches are already in the Intrepid kernel. If anyone

Can you please try to get the log from when Xorg starts and fails? For example,
log in on a console and run:

un-install samba properly but that did not do the trick either.
