9/16/2008 Update. It turns out that this was a hardware problem related
to not having jumpers on pins 5-6 and 9-10 of the FP-Audio 10-1
connector. I heard about this when Googling FP-Audio front panel. So the
bug report should be withdrawn. It may be useful to add this reminder to
the sound troubl

Can we re-open this bug? I just got a HP Pavilion HDX9494nr , have same
issue. lspci is very similar. The a312 shows up under lsusb for me. Will
compile latest 2.6.27 tonight to see if that helps. Let me know if I

Confirmed that it still happens there with 2.6.27-3: the pulseaudio
volume meter actually works, but I don't get any external sound
whatsoever.

I confirm the exact same behavior with gvim and gtk-qt-engine. Furthermore:
