Same here, with compiz on Intrepid.
Worked until yesterday. No idea which package update blew it up. I can
only recall some KDE4 updates and a new kernel.

Did you recently upgrade jockey? (Or your system in general?) This looks
as if you already have the new jockey backend running (jockey-common),
but still have the old graphical user interface (jockey-gtk). Can you
please fully upgrade your system, restart it, and see whether you can
still reproduc

If you set the screensver tonot lock the screen, does the screen saver
fail to start? This looks like its the same problem as #271229 and
