The current hal configuration is wrong. The culprit is the hald-addon-
macbookpro-backlight, which assumes the ATI graphics card, which MBP3,1

the file cleared to an empty state where everything was loaded

1. Yes I can reproduce it anytime and I always use an up-to-date version of
ubuntu.
2. I just inserted the bluetooth adapter mentioned earlier and used the

I have not had any problem in a long time. Cannot recall that I had
problems in 7.10 and I'm since long running 8.04 without any problems.
Haven't tried 8.10 yet.

I've never had it show a negative value (so far).
Also, I do not use client-side filtering, except to tag spam messages
processed by an instance of SpamAssassin; all my filtering and sorting
requirements are otherwise handled by the IMAP server directly.
