Surely this is a regression? Having to install a heavy and potentially
insecure network service for bluetooth file transfers is not a very good
solution to a problem that did not exist in the first place - whilst the
UI for bluetooth was not brilliant in Gnome 2.22, the stack worked well.

Did you find that with 2.4.2 that the X hang went away? If so, we may
be able to SRU that specific fix into Intrepid, but it is too late to
introduce a new version of the -intel driver into Intrepid.

I get the same thing. Happened in Hardy and Intrepid It is only when
compiz is on and I have a NVidia Driver... (Version 177)? When I hover
my mouse over it it goes to normal. I can click it to change the color.
It works like it should but it has the tearing effect. It also doesn't
happen ever

I am experiencing this problem on my Dell Inspiron 8600 with a GeForceFX
Go 5200 card using the nVidia driver installed by Ubuntu's Restricted
Driver manager. As with the others, this problem only occurs in 8.10
(Intrepid Ibex).

Losing keyboard and mouse control when changing screen brightnes
Hi, i find the same problem, but happens when i plug in the external-usb
hard disk formatted in ntfs, i can't use it(the hard disk) because
ubuntu 8.10 don't recognize it and dd & klogd are taking 100% of my
cpu.! In /var/log/kern.log there is:

Problem is also occurring to me on my Toshiba A205-S4777 (also intel
4965agn) using WAP2. The wireless driver seems to have problems when
resuming also.

I have the same issue as posted above. Everything is identically the
same regarding the dmesg, lspci, and version. I will be testing this
using Gentoo soon, but I hope to have this solved very soon, as this is
my wife's new laptop and the lack of wireless is a show-stopper.

Thanks for the reference to the upstream patch. I'm including the
upstream git commit id for the kernel team to reference. I'll go ahead
and open an Intrepid nomination to try to get this patch pulled in as an
SRU (Stable Release Update). Thanks.

ive started a thread in the ubuntuforums concerning a similar issue,
but, in my case, its sometimes only, and the fan stays constantly on.

I have the same issue with an Audigy 2 PCI card.
The card is not detected at all, seems not to exist in hardinfo!
I will remove the card and use the on-board sound chip instead.

I have confirmed that the problem persists even on the installed system,
which also stalls when issuing the reboot command. However, adding the
reboot=b kernel option fixes the problem.
