I believe I've narrowed the cause of the crash down to the File Transfer
Window activating (Alt +F), manually or automatic, initiates the crash
of the entire application on a consistent basis. Compiz has no effect
as it crashes with Metacity Window Manager as well.

I'm experiencing the same problem. I've just installed Ubuntu 8.10
(32-bit) into the latest VMware Player 2.51 (build 126130). My Microsoft
Laser Mouse 6000 USB mouse didn't work at all during the installation
phase, I had to use ALT-keys instead. After installing, pressing the
left mouse button

I tryed so many time to work around this bug that I'm not sure how I was able
to do that, anyway this is the procedure I used (as far as I remember):
1) edit the /etc/NetworkManager/nm-system-settings.conf file and change the
parameter managed=false in managed=true (see below)
It sounds great to me, simple. If somebody wants to do it the right
way they are more than welcome to do so, but something needs to be done
about this ASAP in a world where Linux must play nicely with Windows or
be deemed broken. This is not a small bug.

I have the nVidia chipset in an Asus A8N5X motherboard. I had to turn

Happens to me as well...and I can't find a fix anywhere on google.
Linux Backports does not work. I thought I as OK for weeks, but it

Are both task-manager and Task Monitor then broken since both show the

This is a serious problem also for me, on my Thinkpad R61i. The
suggestion above (which amounts to setting the sample rate to 48000)
helped once, but now it doesn't. With the default 44100 in place, there
were these error messages:

Charlie: you are doing a great triaging job, but if you don't forward
the bugs to the xfce bugzilla or link to the existing bug report on this
bugzilla, it's far less usefull.
