Some progress here. I believe the problem is with X freezing. When I
boot it seems the resolution is set extremely high because the cursor is
very small in size. The panels on top and bottom start to come in but
don't make it all the way leaving just a sliver at top and bottom.

I don't have any idea why. All I can say is that I have a fairly clean
8.10 installation which I upgraded to Jaunty. In other words, the bug
didn't arise under unusual circumstances. I watched the full upgrade
process (but not the dist-upgrade process) and didn't notice any errors.

Hi, another update, and fingers crossed I seem to have solved the
problem.
On the remote computer(s) we are connecting to over the vpn, we assigned
a static ip address, and used open dns server 208.67.220.220 &
208.67.222.222 as pri & sec dns servers. As per previous post and
suspecting a network

Deciding whether the gnome-mount bug is still reproducible should be
easy: after all it is just "fails silently if permission error". The
cause of that permission error would be much harder to diagnose, but
that is a consolekit bug anyway, so thats not this bugreport.

Good question! It's a hard one to justify, I guess it's something I like to

Perhaps a better tooltip would be "15MB currently in trash" .. that way you

Doh, it sounded just like too well matching. So, we have to go through
more pain, sorry. When you boot the 2.6.28 kernel, break for grub and on
the selection screen edit the arguments. Remove "quiet" and "splash" and
add "vga=ask pause_on_panic=60". When you boot you'll get a screen that
