No, your patch doesn't fix the issue, I still get the same segfault.
Reverting back to the previous patch and everything works fine.

The additional python2.6 is probably because some python script uses it as
interpreter instead of the unversioned one.

stracing my problematic mount command shows that the problems occur when
then mount process itself is trying to access the block device, not in
e.g. a mount syscall. I'm guessing that this is a (statically linked)

The reason it's not happening with Rhythmbox, as far as I can tell, is
because Rhythmbox updates the existing notification if the song changes.
Banshee closes the existing notification, and spawns a new one.

I noticed a little wihle back that sometimes it works, and when it does,
Bluetooth isn't working. So I turned off the integrated Bluetooth
controller in the BIOS, and it's been suspending fine now (I've only
been testing for about a day now though :) ). No Bluetooth though, but
I'll take suspend

X indeed freezes: no window updates, no response to mouse events (except
that the cursor moves), no response to keyboard events (Caps Lock
doesn't work, either). I got the backtrace by following the instructions
at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Backtracing, i.e., logged in remotely, ran
