I have just tried booting the Ubuntu 9.04 Beta CD (as a live CD) on this
Averatec 3280 laptop. There is a significant improvement in the
situation, but it is not quite perfect. What happens is that a large
range of resolutions, above and below the optimum resolution of 1024x768
for the LCD display
Actually, I can't try it because Hamster crashes in Jaunty. Please see
bug #360208.

Having Tomboy sshfs sync work every other Ubuntu release is no fun.

I beg to differ. As far as I can tell from here and from Google,
there is a bug in the decision-making process and/or public statements
surrounding Ubuntu's support of Xen.
I run a mid-sized Xen infrastructure of mixed Debian and Ubuntu
machines. Until intrepid came out, I was deprecating the
Daniel, running your test kernel now, seems fixed. Not sure if it's
related, but Cheese now picks up my webcam in my laptop as well. (It
didn't with the previous kernel) Not sure what you're patching here, but
it seems be doing some good.

Looks like a hardware problem to me too.
You could try to isolate one of the servers that has the problem fairly
often, make it run on just one disk for some time (e.g. off office
hours, after the backup). Power off, remove a disk, power on and run
fsck, reboot, simulate some load for some, reboot
This problem seems to be due to a change in the way the quirks are set -
it is now done straight out of the HAL database, rather than from the
config file. How are we supposed to know this
