The same thing here on kubuntu 9.04 with desktop effects on (Radeon Mobility
X1600).

Here a comment to my last comment: I don't know why all these key
shortcuts were redefined in Kubuntu 9.04. The ESC-key was blocked by
"activate lock/logout mini program", a function I'd never ever need.
After removing this definition in "Global Keyboard Shortcuts" the ESC
key behaved normal again.
I have tried http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~rtg/2.6.28-lp348836 kernel. It
have NOT solved the problem. Also I am convinced that what I am having
is a bug 330824, because freeze happens seconds after deleting a bunch
of files. I can delete files, but if hang happens then it is always
after deletion.

I have the same problem too. My system freezes when i browse on
facebook. I looked my system monitor/info and i found that firefox has
allocated 920MB RAM(!!) and the swap partition is active. I think we
have a huge memory leak here.

I can confirm this on amd64.
The connection qualitiy is worse in comparison to hardy.
The connection even drops from time to time and network-manager is unable to
reconnect automatically.

I removed the tracker package with synaptic and the netspeed applet disappeared.
