I noticed that, immediately after booting the computer, ath_pci
(madwifi) works correctly, but then it starts degrading in performance
(both latency and bandwidth) and in a few minutes it's back to a
horrible state like this:

I can confirm that this is still a problem for me. After upgrading from
8.10 the cpu was still high and I saw this was caused by vino. After
disabling it from the system preferences menu remote desktop, the cpu
usage immediately goes down. Stopping the autostart with gconftool-2 as

i don't see a reason why 3.0.10 would be much slower; maybe you also got
an update for your graphics driver? Also consider to check if your
extensions cause this (go to tools - addons and disable them for
instance).

I'm experiencing similar problems with LinkedIn on Ubuntu 9.04 and
FireFox 3.0.10. Also happens with Opera on the same platform.
When testing with other machines, Mac OSX 10.5 with FireFox 3.0.10 has
the identical problem BUT if I run Safari, then all systems are GO. If I
use Windows XP SP3 and
NEVER, EVER run firefox with sudo; you will surely end up in more
situations like this if you do this. Could also be that you ran it with
sudo at some point and this is caused by this now.

--prefix ... e.g. like --prefix=/home/olaji/local_nm_test/
in this way you dont trash the /usr/local hierarchy and you can easiliy
get rid of it by removing the complete dir of prefix.

i845 has been running uxa a few days now on release level jaunty with linux
images rc2, rc3, rc4, currently karmic koala 2.6.30-1.
Perfectly usable as a 2.0 gHz Celeron except for jerky video. I don't
have a flash video benchmark. Extremetuxpenguin runs about 3.1 to 4
frames a second

On some hardware configurations, openal-soft doesn't work with the default alsa
backend and pulseaudio.
A workaround is to switch the backend to oss. To do that, create a file named

Here's the data of the same firefox scrolling test, this time with nv
driver.
It seems a little bit better, Xorg draws a little less CPU consumption
compared with nouveau, but it is still the bottleneck as you can see.

Here is what I learned from my bug report on the Gnome bugzilla: this
problem goes away if you turn off all desktop visual effects, which
switches you from the compiz window manager to metacity. To do this I
went into System - Preferences - Appearance and clicked the Visual
Effects tab, and

Confirmed. This is quite important bug as CLI is important for many programs.

This bug still exists in intrepid. It happens during a backup dd with a
file which has 35GB.

I have the same issue, HP 1020 is listed so you can add it. Once added the
'download aditional software' dialog appears, and does nothing after clicking
OK.
So there is definitely a bug here.

Hy i'm having the same problem, i've install the systemsettings package
to select the appropriate style for KDE apps. It seem like i'm missing
something because the only appearance setting I can change are the
icons, i don't have any way to select the KDE widget style... I guess i
need to install
