xorg.conf is ASCII today afaik so it could be converted to UTF-8 in a
backwards compatible fashion. Once that's done you could implement a
small check that detects this and prints a nice error or even accepts
the non-"ASCII 34" double quotes.

Maybe I was able to figure it out. There is a program in synaptic called
"fdutils" if this is enabled it will make the floppy work.
I am not sure but prior to that I did try this that I found in a 8.10 bug fix.

I confirm that. Specifically I confirm what jcoffland says. It merely requires
moving focus out of the emacs to (i.e.) firefox.
It is most annoying.
Sometimes system freezes like for 10-15 seconds and sometimes it freezes
to a point it requires kill from text console.

No, I didn't have any kernel oops here; Aaron's is almost certainly an
unrelated issue.
I have not seen this freeze again since disabling the
ExaOptimizeMigration setting. Nor do I see it when running UXA, which

The fun you're having with volume keys/knobs sounds familiar, but is a
different bug.
What happens for you, is that the kernel sends a volume change
notification in the form of a key press, and gnome-settings-daemon
interprets that key as a request to change the volume, triggering
another notifica

I think that the indicator-applet aspects of this bug have been fixed
and discovered to be invalid for some folks. I think there are perhaps
other more generic issues for folks with the gnome-panel, which aren't
indicator applet related. I think a bug should be opened on the
gnome-panel package
The provided binaries do not run out of the box and I was unable to find
instructions on how to compile from source.
