I am running the 9.04 Jaunty release on a desktop machine. I have

called ' notify osd' linked to /usr/lib/notify-osd/notify-osd this process
uses the file /home/rob/.cache/notify-osd.log (0 bytes).
This proces uses cpu when opening and closing OOo.

I've just got a Samsung R610 laptop and can confirm these keys are non-
functional on a Jaunty install.

I had the same problem as the original poster - seems like theres no
audio output framework installed.
This solved it for me:
sudo apt-get install ultrastar-ng-gstreamer

I have the same problem (Jaunty 32bit). Except that it is not always the
case : sometimes it is set on 'ondemand' after login and sometimes
'performance'. I have not found the conditions yet...
