Is this issue still present for you in Ubuntu 9.10?
Since you mention that the on-screen display still works, this is
unlikely to be a hotkey problem; it's probably a problem of the volume
controls being mapped to the wrong mixer by default. Reassigning to
pulseaudio.

I can confim this behaviour on Maxdata Pro i600 Notebook. After
upgrading from 9.04 to 9.10 the display freezes and cannot be restarted
at all. The system is fully available from network (i.e. ssh shell) and
can be shut down or restarted. System load is ~1 although 100%idle on
CPU.

I'm confirming a sort of this bug with recent Seamonkey 2.0 (General Release).
The trick was to enable the Enigmail add-on. Once enabled, Seamonkey begins

Oh, I had missed the bit about relogging after disabling assistive
technologies. I hereby confirm that disabling assistive technologies and
relogging did make Eclipse work.
It is funny that it works out of the under Kubuntu, when it calls GTK
just the same. I imagine GTK under Gnome does use

In my last try to run the 9.10 live environment I pressed TAB to edit

BIOS does not provide ACPI _PSS objects in a way that Linux understands,
UPDATE: I updated to the latest BIOS for my Gigabyte MA78G-DS3H ver1.0
but it didn't help. 9.10 live environments still reboots before the
desktop shows up.
Before the BIOS update I downloaded 8.04 LTS to see it will go. The live
environment runs fine, you can see the desktop and work in it.
In Ubuntu 9.10, hotkeys are handled by udev. Reassigning accordingly.
Please upgrade to Ubuntu 9.10 and follow the steps described under
Fixing broken keys in /usr/share/doc/udev/README.keymap.txt. Please
also include the output of lsusb -v, since this is a USB keyboard.

After upgrading to 9.10 I can't see the gnome panel. The process is
there, but with no visible results :) Restarting gnome-panel, moving
configuration files etc. doesn't help.

Same here on karmic. Last kernel i can boot with is 2.6.31-4. All newer
builds get stuck at mounting the root filesystem

yesterday, when I upgraded to Karmic. Things seem to run well, except
for (at least) a devkit/policykit problem.
When I plug a USB memory stick, a window shows up telling me that the

Since I upgraded from jaunty to markic, I can't save any more to ntfs
partitions (I cold with jaunty on the same computer) when using firefox (3.5.4
right now).
Using file managers (nautilus or krusader) everything works fine.
