Try this. Go to the places menu and click Computer or run Nautilus in
any way you can. Then, right click Filesystem and go to Properties
and select the Open With tab. Select the desired file manager. I
selected Open Folder which, in GNOME just uses Nautilus. This may

Put Audacity in thinking that that meant that it was effected by the
bug, not that it caused the bug, sorry, still new.

SOLVED
setting a boot option: i8042.nomux
1) sudo gedit /etc/default/grub
2) change the line
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=quiet splash
to the following
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=quiet splash i8042.nomux
3) save
4) sudo update-grub
5) restart the system

Banshee doesn't recognize the media player when it's plugged in, it freezes.
The underlying MTP programs are working, I used the command line tools to
verify. I downloaded version 1.4.3 source for which karmic has all the
required versions
I just finished an install of Lucid Alpha 1 on the affected hardware,
and the issue seems to be fixed. I was able to log in without having to
append nomodeset on the kernel command line.

What application is open when the crash is occurring?
