I am having the exact same problem with a Dell Inspiron E1705. The
external DVI monitor will not work since upgrading to 9.10. My Dell has
the same Intel Graphics controller as the MacBook and xrandr reports
the DVI is disconnected when it is actually plugged in, just as reported
by the MacBook
