a) When I am running on battery power with reasonable energy, gnome-

Ironic given that the GNOME Disk Utility doesn't recognize media in the floppy
drive(s) in karmic; probably due to:

Yeap I have the same problem, had it for months now. "Scanner is Busy"
work in Jaunty.
I really need my scanner but short of getting stuck in at a development level I
cant seem to fix it.
I have tried reintallling the Jaunty packages but this hasn't fixed it in my
case.

Happens to me too.
Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Alpha 2
If it matters, mine is 64bit. I believe that this should be moved to critical
importance, because it doesn't open at all.

I'm trying this out in hopes of a fix too. I hope everyone realizes that
the many layers of complexity that exist now on linux audio world are
evidently making everything increasingly difficult to mantain... since
pulseaudio has been made default in ubuntu, i've been having problems
with it on ever

I also have this problem in karmic 9.10. I have been using GDM as the
default manager and installed kubuntu-desktop to see KDE 4.3. Logged
back in using GDM and my mouse theme was the same that was in kubuntu.
Running sudo update-alternatives --config x-cursor-theme seems to have
fixed the problem
As far as the sanity checks go, here is my rationale: Batteries
deteriorate with time and use, especially when there is no battery
management by way of the BIOS (unfortunately the kernel tp_smapi module
is the only one I'm aware of under Linux, which gives me the option to
