I just recreated the problem to provide an Xorg.0.log file. The
attached file is from after the screen turns black, and I switched to
tty1. I had not restarted gdm.

As far as I can remember, I just downloaded the lucid server alpha2 ISO
image (x86) from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/lucid/alpha-2/lucid-
server-i386.iso and created a new virtual machine in VMWare Player using
that ISO image. I don't remember VMWare Player giving me any option to
do a norm

Installed xorg-edgers PPA [1] and did: aptitude update, aptitude upgrade, reboot
After logging in and starting to pull down menus, I no longer get a freeze, but
Xorg crashes and I am left with a black screen with a mouse pointer that I can
move about, but I am now able to switch VT (Ctrl-Alt-F2)
I too am having this problem running a custom kernel based off of
2.6.31.12 and I merely increased the frequency timer. However rsyslog

The installer is just doing what it's told, and msttcorefonts can't
really operate in any other way given licensing constraints. The
remaining question, then, is whether it's suitable for shipping in
Ubuntu Studio at all.

If I enable "Separate X Screen" with nvidia-settings, Xorg.conf is saved
and GDM restarted - after logging back-in mouse pointer constantly
alternates between pointer and spinning wheel. CPU jumping to 100%.
Nautilus is constantly respawning itself trying to open a file manag
