Hello, I am a n00b here with Linux, I have been a Windows user since Win
3.1. I have tried red-hat back in 94 and it required a floppy boot disk

I am not able to boot in to lucid, I can only boot in to my old karmic
installation, therefore I am not able to obtain a syslog file for the
failure to boot from the alpha 3 live cd.
I also didn't actively switch to noveau or anything, I was just under
the impression that nouveau became the default

When I try to run the Lucid alpha-3 live CD, the system boots to the
point where the system tries to log in to Gnome. Apparently it does log

to do that on ubuntu. Did you try doing it without the switch.

Now that this problem has been brought to the correct personnel, is it
possible to get some assistance with this? I have been plagued by this
ever since we got the bug fixed for the screensaver not starting by
itself after time out (#411350). If this will be or has been corrected
