It seems that the requirements for bootstrapping have changed since I
last bootstrapped this. The following sequence of commands (output
mostly elided) worked for me:

I am using the latest ubuntu 10.04 alpha 3 and I can still see this
problem. It is very slow and processors get busy when changing the
brighness level. I had to deactivate the "Dim display when idle" option
because of that.
I have a HP Pavilion dv 2000.

anything as it was already being detected as cirrus.
I tried using the vmvga driver instead of the cirrus driver, and that

@Chris: I can reproduce this at will in a kvm. Lucid's gnome-screensaver
doesn't work _at all_ in kvm, but previous released worked fine.

You need to wait until Ubuntu has completely finished booting to the
desktop, then open the Terminal (Applications>>Accessories>>Terminal)
I would update grub-common before you do anything else (because
otherwise you'll have to do it twice - updating will break the repair).

recentely the order used by shift switcher seem to a bit wonky
if you are on window 1, shft to 2, and stop, then cycle back, you will get:
window 2-> 1, 3, etc
but if i you start stop in 3, it will be:
window 3-> 2, 4,51
and not:
3->2,1,4,5

Sorry I guess this bug was fixed for me after one of the updates.

heh, sorry, i'm stupid... today i chek all configs, and found
"managed=false" in my /etc/NetworkManager/nm-system-settings.conf, after
chenging that to true, all work, but now i have uneditable interface in
nm, "ifupdown(eth0)"
