I've just been reading my original report and it is not quite what I am

After playing around with the gtkrc of Radiance I've found a setting

I have this problem - sound was fine after I downloaded Lucid Beta 1 and

I have a similar problem with an installation of firefox-3.6 from the
Mozilla Daily PPA that was removed when Firefox 3.6 was uploaded to the
Ubuntu repositories.
Coincidentally, I was using apport-bug to file a bug report on firefox
when I encountered this bug.

Sorry I am a bit out of Ubuntu. Which version of Ubuntu and QDVDAuthor
are we talking about ?
One issue could be that the local installed MPlayer does not work as
expected ( maybe jpeg output is not working ? )
Another option would be to try the Xine backend ( Tools -> Setup ->
