partition and boots. 2.6.32-17 seems to only know about ext2, ext3,
ext4, and fuseblk filesystems. Thus it refuses to mount the root /
filesystem, fails to boot, and leaves no logs.

I always run synaptic as root. But if run as normal user there is a
difference if Install-Recommends is true or false. So I agree with Jean-

I experience this in spite of the fact that I have notifications
disabled for users coming online/going offline in empathy.
Interestingly for me, the entries in messaging menu end-up in the mail
section of the menu instead of the chat section.

This is confirmed on Karmic both 64, and 32bit systems, running Firefox,
Chromium and Opera.
This problem may be a deal breaker to a lot of people, and it definitely screws
up the experience for someone like me who uses Ubuntu exclusively.
I concur the status should be moved to high.
