I tried installing Lucid beta ( 10.04 ) using lucid-alternate-amd64.iso,
The cd booted fine, but during installation the CD drive was not
recognized. Retried installing using lucid-alternate-i386.iso, this
produced the same problem.

Hi Samuel. I can remember seeing this in karmic. I have tested this in
the latest development release of Ubuntu which will be available at the
end of April. This issue seems to be fixed there. Thanks for reporting

I have the same problem, and I have found one interesting detail: Gedit
works fine if the file contains relatively short lines. In this mode,
Gedit can open very large files (more than 100 MB). If the lines are
long, Gedit freezes (and sometimes crashes) on a 4 MB file. Option word
