I have applied the patch to the Ubuntu Lucid source in the repository.
Installed the rebuilt
libmyth-0.23-0_0.23.0+fixes24158-0ubuntu2_i386.deb.
It works and fixes the white noise issue.
Thanks go to danielk for the upstream patch.
For those who need to get it working today, build the
dpkg: unrecoverable fatal error, aborting:

I am not sure why this is fixed released! if there is a fix, there
should at least be a reference to it, or some kind of indication which

Well I just noticed that my printers have been detected without me doing
anything. Either an update fixed this or it was just a fluke and a
reboot fixed it.

I have the exact same problem on two of my computers, which are both
running Lucid RC. On both computers GConf Configuration Backend has
beed set from the start.
