I had the same issue, the panels took a long time to start.
I didn't have the passwordless login enabled.
But turning "passwordless login" on, (remove the mark from "ask for
password" then click OK) and then turning it off again, (set the mark
"ask for password" and click OK) fixed the problem.

When plugging in and (automatically) activating a wired connection my
system's hostname is set to an autogenerated string - “unknown”,
followed by my eth0's MAC address in hex.
This only occurs after plugging in a wired connection. Con
I haven't tried video streaming over 3G as it would be too expensive on
my PAYG SIM. But for basic browsing and E-mail it works fine; it hasn't
locked up the whole machine.
However I'm using the standard Lucid kernel with self-compiled modules
