I have already downgraded the packages. But earlier I tried lsusb. It did
show the device as Huawei modem. But there was no way to access the modem or
the mass storage by any means.

Same problem with ATI Radeon X1200 (RS690M) on a DELL Inspiron 1526:
external VGA display is flickering when running the stable kernel.
Booting the stable kernel with radeon.new_pll=0 changes the way it
flickers, but the external screen stays unusable.

It looks like a kernel issue and that audio playback is just another
victim. I'll move it to Linux and hope that someone with more expertise
with those questions can help you there.
