Since installing Ubuntu on my Asus Eee 1008p, the max brightness level
has been too low. (Lower than before when using Opensuse). The Fn
brightness control keys are working fine, and i can adjust the
brightness with no problem. Just that the highest level is quite dull.

On 9.10 Fn-F5 and Fn-F6 lower and raise the display brightness on my
Sony Vaio VGN-CR120E, but this no longer works in 10.10 Beta (booted

So, I think there may be two separate issues here:
1) X started on the wrong tty, resulting in getty eventually timing out and
resetting the tty input, manifests as “X crashes when pressing enter after 5
minutes or so”.
2) X started on the correct tty, but with incorrect input settings, manifests
likely a dup of 539692

get an error when I try to install without sudo:
