This problem appeared resolved in Maverick kernel 2.6.35-20-generic but
has reappeared in this week's 2.6.35-21-generic release. Reverting back
to -20 provides a stable connection. In -21 I get repeated
disconnections and re-connections even while simply browsing web pages.

going to another shell didn't work; only ctrl+alt+del helped
I reinstalled all linux.. packages in recovery mode and it helped(probably)

Hmm, I just turned off pulseaudio and switched to alsa (Lucid) and the
calls are clear now. So this seems to be the fault of pulseaudio
(pending further testing)

Hi, sorry, problem was 1) that HDMI was on the first place in
pavucontrol (And I think sound flowed to it only), 2) wine sound was
muted in pavucontrol. So thank you, I have my problem solved but may be
