Confirmed on Lucid with (not yet) backported clamav 0.96.3 from clamav-
ppa.
Seems like this is some new feature in 0.96.3 where freshclam (and
indeed clamav-daemon too) does some checking in /proc/self and also
/proc/filesystems. Attached some syslog entries which appear exactly
after freshclam
Which packages did you install from the ubuntu-x-swat ppa ?

The attached patch fixes the problem. I assume the problem has to do
with a changed behavior of cmake, but I don't know a thing about cmake
so I don't know how to devise a proper fix.
The patch hardwires the value of SYSCONF_INSTALL_DIR to /etc in the
file
Should be fixed in trunk, now that I merged the fast-icons branch

I just committed a few optimizations. We still don't do pre-caching
which would make this a lot better, but unless carefully executed this
can completely trash our login speed, which i did not dare at this point
in the cycle. We can look at improving this further for Natty.

I just tried it on the 20100920 live CD, and the problem still exists.
Is there a chance that:
a) Language-support is reporting the wrong language (is there another way to
verify it)?
b) This setting has been stored in my local user profile (retained during
reinstall - can it be reset)?

Chris,
what is the relationship between that kernel (http://kernel.ubuntu.com

Maverick? (v2.6.36-rc4-maverick and v2.6.36-rc5-maverick), both under

This does indeed to be fixed
Could you clarify - needs to be fixed or appears to be fixed?
